HB 327 Testimony Workshop

UPDATE: Some of you may try to join the workshop via a Zoom meeting link with a password. If that link does not work for you, please try registering.

If you oppose HB 327, the Ohio higher ed bill that poses significant threats to academic freedom and higher ed funding in Ohio, please join Miami AAUP for a testimony-writing workshop on Zoom from 4-5pm on Tuesday, December 14. Register here.

A hearing on the bill may be announced this week, and the call for public testimony will happen on a short timeframe, so advance preparation is key.

HB 327 is one of two bills currently being considered in the Ohio legislature would ban accurate educational (K-12 and college) accounts of culture and history as “divisive.” These bills, HB 322 and HB 327, are themselves divisive, eroding trust in our teachers and in our communities, and they stand in the way of preparing our students for a complex world. Learn more about HB 327 here (Miami AAUP chapter meeting slides), at Save Ohio Higher Ed (scroll down to September 1, 2021 video forum), and on the very useful Honesty for Ohio Education site. Miami AAUP will be using Honesty for Ohio Education materials at the workshop.

At the workshop, we will walk through main points you can make, work together to generate written testimony, and show you how to submit it. Please join your colleagues in fighting for our academic freedom by preparing testimony. Feel free to share this invitation with friends at Miami and elsewhere. All welcome!
